If you run a small business with your crochet creations, run a different small business, or work in graphic design, it’s likely that you’ve heard the name “Canva“. If that’s the case, this post is for you to learn how to use it further for your crochet creations and crochet business. Even if you haven’t heard of it before, this post is for you! I’ll start with the basics of Canva for Crocheters and why you need it, and then go a bit more in-depth with how you can make ALL the things.

What is Canva?

Canva is a web-based graphic design program. They provide millions of images, templates, fonts, and more to help you create the perfect graphics, whether for your social media, blog, or other parts of your business.

Canva for Crocheters: Why You Need It

I know, you’re still wondering what Canva does for crocheters and why you need it. Here’s what you can do with Canva for your finished items and for other aspects of your crochet business:

  • If you don’t have one yet, make your own logo for your business
  • Keep all of your branding colors, fonts, logos, etc. in one place
  • Order business cards, posters, or prints of anything you need for vendor shows and markets
  • Edit your photos
  • Watermark your photos
  • Have a place to store your photos other than you phone, camera, or computer
  • Create attention-grabbing graphics for your Facebook Page, Instagram, and Pinterest to keep your followers and customers engaged with you
  • Plan your social media content – Canva has their very own content planner right in the website, how cool is that?!
  • Have a team with your business? Now everyone can design in the same place, without having to upload to the cloud or email back and forth
  • Write your crochet patterns – this one is important, so stay tuned for more

Why should I write my patterns in Canva?

Here’s why: MOST of the time, if you’re writing crochet patterns, you want to be focused on that and keep pumping out as many patterns as you possibly can, getting them out to testers, and released. You don’t want to spend your time trying to make your actual pattern all pretty right? Well, some of you might be like me and enjoy that part, but for a lot of people, you don’t even like typing up your patterns, let alone designing a pretty-looking PDF.

This is where Canva (and I) come in. All of my crochet pattern templates are designed in Canva and ready-to-use. No downloading a program, no worrying about formatting. You type and go. Done. There are pre-made options in my shop. You can change the fonts, colors, watermark, etc. to reflect YOU and your branding. I also offer custom template design if you want your template to reflect your branding more closely than what changing the colors and fonts on the pre-made templates can do.

If you do want to try designing your own template, Canva makes that super easy. They have document templates ready to go, and they have a ton of design elements for use as well.

OKay, but how much does it cost?

And is the cost worth it? You bet. There is a free plan, but I highly recommend going for the Pro version and getting ALL of the goodies and space to store your creations. It’s great to not have to worry about storing everything on your computer. If you accidentally delete it, or need space on your computer, Canva has your back. It’s still waiting there for you!
