Table of Contents

When Anna Kate’s grandmother, Zee, dies, she’s left with the café that her grandmother owned. There’s one catch: she has to run the café for two months before she can sell it. Throughout her time in Wicklow, running the café, the town locals keep telling Anna Kate that Wicklow always manage to keep a hold on those who are “just passing through”. The more time Anna Kate spends in Wicklow, the more secrets she uncovers and the more she becomes uncertain about the plans she held in the beginning. Midnight at the Blackbird Café by Heather Webber tells an amazing story with the perfect hint of believable magic weaved within.

My Overall Thoughts on Midnight at the Blackbird Café by Heather Webber

Overall, this story was really good. The hints of magic throughout were believable, almost like it wasn’t really magic, but people in the “beyond” coming back to help those still on Earth. It was very well done. The story of healing was beautiful and again, realistic, for every character. Each character had their own story, but it didn’t feel like too much. They were all put together in a way that made absolute sense.

The one thing I do wish there had been more of at the end was closure or an actual telling of Jena and Bow’s story. There were hints at their “secret”, but it was honestly never spelled out, and if you weren’t paying close attention, it’s not likely that you put it together. I like books to tell me that I’m right about something, so the fact that the story didn’t come straight out and explain their involvement brought the book down a star for me, unfortunately.

Would I recommend this book?

Absolutely. Even though I’m nit-picking and complaining about part of the story, it really is a great book. It does contain some drama and trigger warnings of death and drowning. However, if you’re looking for a relatively light read, this is a great one!
